LINCOLN TAYLOR CLAIMS 3RD PLACE

CADET 12

QLD STATE TITLE CHAMPIONSHIP 2018

@RACER_LT78

2018 has been a break out year for Lincoln, after being put up into the ever competitive Cadet 12 category early at just Nine years of age.

After winning the QLD State title for Cadet 9 in 2017, Lincoln was keen for a good performance in his first year of Cadet 12.

Round one of the QLD State Title saw Lincoln going into round two in Bundaberg at the weekend in equal fifth place.

After a successful test day in Bundaberg the week before, Linc was confident he could push for a podium and possibly even a win. He showed great pace through all six practice sessions being in the top three consistently, however failing to find his own space in qualifying saw Lincoln drop to fifth place for the first two race starts.

Heat one and two saw Lincoln finish in third place. This was his plan as he wanted to start the final off P3 to put him on the inside line for turn one. This plan was working well until heat 3 where the #11 of Marcos Flack had a mechanical issue and saw Linc finish in second place.

This now had Lincoln starting of P2 for the 26 lap final which was a disadvantage in dry conditions, however Mother Nature had other ideas. A huge storm rolled through just in time for the final race of the day. After scrambling to get a wet set up into the kart and then a one hour delay, we were ready for a start in treacherous conditions.

Lincoln got the holeshot off the start and had a five kart length lead by turn 2, and in the opening laps was nearly two seconds a lap faster than the rest of the field except the #11 of Marcos Flack whose experience and skill in wet conditions came to the fore front. Marcos would catch and pass Lincoln on lap four and that would be how the final race would finish with Lincoln only one tenth off the fastest lap of the race and 14 seconds ahead of third place.

This second place for the final round of the QLD State Championships would be enough for Lincoln to claim third overall for the Championship in a field of 28 karts.

Congratulations to Carter Mobbs winning the Championship and claiming the Blue Plate and Marcos Flack on his hard fought second place.

We now look forward to the International Race Of the Stars on the Gold Coast on 11-12-13 October where Lincoln will go in with a lot of confidence to win the prestigious Surfboard trophy.
